The structure, almost 30 metres tall and weighing around 5,000 kilos, is carried through the streets of the town for over a kilometre by around 100 men every year on 3 September. Renewed roughly every 5 years, in 2015 two Macchine will be in operation: one at the EXPO and the other, which will parade for the first time on 3 September.
Having become a UNESCO World Heritage site about a year ago, the symbol of Viterbo travelled to Milan, facing a difficult journey due to its size.
Fiore del Cielo, the heart of Tuscia, will shine far from its native land for six months and will be the only monument physically present from our Italy within the Universal Exposition.

This is the first time that the Macchina di Santa Rosa has left Viterbo, and it has certainly carried with it the hearts of all the citizens of Viterbo, for whom this journey is felt as a true source of pride.
