Civita di Bagnoregio, located on the border with Umbria, rises on a rocky spur between two valleys crossed  by creeks. Due to the shape of the territory, the tuff hill base where Civita stands, is in continuous erosion, and because of that  the citadel was nicknamed by Bonaventura Tecchi, who was born here , “The Dying City”. If on one hand this combination of weather and geological features has sadly marked the fate of the village, on the other hand, it has shaped  a breathtaking and almost unreal landscape such as Calanchi valley that surrounds Civita,  creating a nostalgic but  magic atmosphere .

The urban settlement is  on the square where the cathedral stands. This was probably built at the beginning of the VII century on the site of an ancient temple and enriched over the centuries with various restoration works. Inside there is a precious fifteenth-century wooden Crucifix, of Flemish school.
