ORTICOLARIO 2016, THE AWAKENING

PROMOTUSCIA PRESENTS NEW ITINERARIES TO DISCOVER TUSCIA. The eighth edition of Orticolario — the autumn exhibition of flowers, rare, unusual and collector’s plants, tools and furnishings, held at Villa Erba (Cernobbio) on Lake Como from 29 September to 1 October — ended happily with over 23,000 visitors. “The Awakening”, the title of this edition, springs from the sixth sense everyone has, which lives and expands beyond the perception of physical phenomena, through which one feels the vital force of nature that surrounds, inspires, seduces and gives pleasure.

Representing Tuscia with its itineraries, PromoTuscia took part with its own stand presenting its latest project on Tuscia as a homeland, continuing what began last year with “Tuscia is a Garden”. This year the project focused on the theme “Spas and Gardens in Tuscia” — a way to discover and rediscover world-unique gems such as Villa Lante in Bagnaia, Palazzo Farnese in Caprarola, the Sacred Grove of Bomarzo and Castello Ruspoli in Vignanello. Alongside these extraordinary landscapes, a multitude of small private gardens dot the province of Viterbo: artist gardens, historic gardens, amateur gardens and exceptional nurseries. In Viterbo, the splendid spa centres with their hotels are a further reason to imagine a trip to Tuscia.

The brochure created for the occasion was distributed to about three thousand people, also at the stands of the Moutan Botanical Centre of Vitorchiano and the Ethimo company, also representing Tuscia. More than a third of the visitors contacted over the three days said they knew Tuscia, even just for its great attractions. The suggested itineraries are a sort of Ariadne’s thread: the first, “From the Etruscans to contemporary art”, breathes the art of our origins — from the painted Etruscan tombs of Tarquinia, through Niki de Saint Phalle’s Tarot Garden and Giuppi Pietromarchi’s La Ferriera in Capalbio, to the Sacred Grove of Bomarzo. The second, “Palaces and gardens in Tuscia”, captures the harmony of the Renaissance — from Villa Lante to Palazzo Farnese, Castello Ruspoli, the Palace of the Dragon Prince in Bolsena and Villa Lina in Ronciglione. The third is a tribute to the food-and-wine excellence of “Civita di Bagnoregio and Bolsena”, with visits to the elegant botanical gardens of the Calanchi. Finally, “Spas and Botanical Garden”, where the pairing of spas and gardens was particularly appreciated by Orticolario visitors. Below, a photo gallery of the PromoTuscia stand.
