The last of the events for World Italian Cinema Day will be set in the village of San Martino al Cimino, with its striking views and the beautiful, majestic Cistercian abbey.
It was the great Mario Monicelli who chose the town for “Il Medico e lo Stregone” (“The Doctor and the Sorcerer”), a cult film from the 1950s starring three giants of Italian cinema: Alberto Sordi, Vittorio De Sica and Marcello Mastroianni, the latter also appearing in another film shot in San Martino, “Il Mondo Nuovo” (“The New World”), by the other great director Ettore Scola.
