Trekking in the Calanchi with a picnic and Palazzo Monaldeschi de La Cervara
Palazzo Monaldeschi: in Lubriano, a small village with an extraordinary view over Civita di Bagnoregio, the palace bears the name of one of Orvieto’s most prestigious families, who in the 11th century turned a convent into a small “country” castle. Its current Baroque style, in the manner of Juvarra, is due to Paolo Antonio Monaldeschi, who had the palace refurbished after the patrician villas of the Roman countryside. Here the Misasi family welcomes us with the warm hospitality of their native Calabria.
Calanchi trekking: accompanied by a hiking guide, we walk immersed in the intriguing landscape of the Calanchi, where the silhouette of Civita di Bagnoregio stands out. We walk through unspoilt nature amid scenery of incomparable beauty, reaching the “Pianale”, a tufa rise at the centre of the valley with a unique panorama. The area is one of the most fascinating in central Italy, with its incredible erosion forms shaped by the elements in Pliocene clays deposited about two million years ago. Here, in complete tranquillity, we enjoy a relaxing picnic break with typical local products.
