Cantina Leonardi – as it was yesterday, so it is today!

Meet in Montefiascone to visit Cantina Leonardi, the oldest and most prestigious winery in the area. Through a route of cellars dug into volcanic rock, lined with barrels, tanks and thousands of bottles resting heedless of passing time, our hosts lead us — through their stories — to a tasting of three wines representative of the estate and to discover a land naturally suited to winemaking. More than a century ago young Domenico laid the foundations of an estate that, thanks to its attachment to the land and to local and family traditions, we can still visit today. So strong is this land’s vocation for winemaking that the anecdote linking the wine Est! Est!! Est!!! to Bishop Defuk — who reputedly drank himself to death — is still celebrated in the village.
